Live on the Lake

Here in the Berkshires a Wednesday evening in the summer has turned into a highly anticipated time for many of the local people. On the beautiful Onota Lake in Pittsfield every Wednesday during July & August is Live on the Lake. A stage is set up, lawn chairs and blankets laid out, and the boats all pulled up to the shore to enjoy the music and the setting sun.

I hadn’t attended a Live on the Lake since last summer so I wasn’t sure how the event had evolved. The way I remembered it was a smaller gathering of tents from our local radio station Live 95.5, schools, and food with the band as the main event. This year was very much the same with more food vendors and people. We parked on a side street by Sportsman’s and walked up the pretty residential street to the lake while watching the sun set.

Excellent Music

When we arrived everything was already in full swing, we could hear the band from where we parked. There were people enjoying the music, dancing, and enjoying the food. Everything was great but I was hoping to see a little more. There were some great food places like “Thats a wrap” and the band was excellent. However I felt like there could have been a lot more going on. Maybe I’ve become a bit spoiled with the amazing Third Thursdays on North Street or maybe I am just partial to more arts but I was hoping to see merchants, artists, or even someone doing caricatures. With the large crowd, great entertainment and amazing view I am surprised more businesses and people don’t get involved to really bring this thing alive. It really is on the right track and I think it’s a good start to something that will be great!

This is the sun setting as the music played.

There was a decent sized crowd that was spread out along the scenic shore of the lake. People were on bikes and with their dogs, some of them eating the soft serve and sharing it with their children. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and a very enjoyable night for me.

Friday I will be at the Barrington Stage Company for their pay what you can night for anyone under 35! I am really excited to return after seeing Sweeney Todd during the last pay what you can event! The show is followed by free delicious food, cash bar, and great music! Check out my Barrington Stage Post to read more about my great experience last time. Friday they will be showing a comedy called ART and tickets start at just $10. I really hope to see you there!
