Ferrin Gallery

As I walked down North St looking for the Ferrin Gallery it was almost unrecognizable from even just a year ago. I grew up in the area, an “underprivileged” child you could say, so from my point of view the area was barren and under stimulating and certainly nothing I was ever excited about. That has completely changed and I couldn’t be happier to be in an area that is improving, growing, and creating so many creative and business careers! I am currently getting myself involved in some great projects with Barrington Stage Company and Cultural Pittsfield TV, these are opportunities that are appearing at an incredible rate for everyone to take advantage of! There are some amazing theaters and galleries in the area that are open to all types of volunteers to help you build your resumes!
Speaking of galleries I had the privilege of checking out the Ferrin Gallery on North St yesterday for the opening of Maggie Mailer, Mark Shapiro, and Susan Mikula. I had never been there before and I have to say I immediately fell in love! The layout was open but there was a wall in the middle of the room that created a flowing circular path around the gallery. There was also an additional space filled with pottery and shelves of beautiful things to look at.
On a small table was a beautiful bowl filled with punch as well as a matching ceramic pitcher with a non-alcoholic mix. The gallery was packed with people, as people filtered out more filtered in. My personal favorite was the art of Maggie Mailer. Her paintings were so textured and the colors were beautiful. It was so hard to pick favorites but if I had to I would choose this beautiful painting of a woman in an orange striped dress. I absolutely loved the textures and colors along with her beautiful hair and jewelry.
I couldn’t stop staring closely at the canvas, the textures and layers of paint were beautiful and as you moved further away the painting came into focus, like one called tornado. The painting was beautiful, and staring up close the tornado wasn’t as obvious as when you moved away. We ran into some friends and discussed the art over some punch before making one last round and saying our goodbyes. It was a friendly crowd of people, some of which has their children there as well. I can’t wait to return for the next event at the Ferrin Gallery.
DISH+DINE @ Ferrin Gallery will be going on August 24th at 6:30pm! “the perfect pairing of local food and local artist”. Hope to see you there! Click the link for more info!

Gorgeous place. I think it’s funny that even the punch bowl is beautiful! I wish there were more galleries like that ’round my parts. No luck.
How fortunate to have a place like this where local artists can display their work. If we lose the arts we lose our soul. Cherrish this place and those like it. Excellent combination of narrative nad photography. Wish I lived closer to see it in person!
