Whitney's sign at night w/ the pumpkins

It was one of the warmer days that we had a few weeks ago and I was just planning on having a lazy day around the house with my son Evan.  We were going to spend most of the day in our pajama’s, watching movies, and playing chase around the living room while we waited for my boyfriend to get out of work.  When my boyfriend got home he said that it was beautiful out and that we should go to Whitney’s Farm.  I thought that was a great idea and I have never been so I was really excited to go!

Whitney’s is located on Route 8 in Cheshire. It was incredibly easy to get to and from my house it was only about 15 minutes away.  We pulled into the parking lot and decided to go and check out the store first.  It was smaller than I thought but very well kept and cozy.  It was full of fresh produce, pancake mixes, and maple candies.  All of which made my mouth water!  We browsed for a few minutes before making our way to the bakery/deli inside the store.  The had homemade donuts, raspberry elephant ears, and other yummy treats for you to choose from.  The deli makes fresh salads and sandwiches for those who want more of a lunch instead of just a snacks.  We got a half dozen pumpkin cider donuts and then made or way across the street to where they have picnic tables for you to use.

After our delicious snack we let Evan play on some of the slides that they have for children to play on.  They have several different play sets including one shaped like a tractor and one like a boat.  There were lots of other children of all different ages playing as well .  We then headed to the pumpkin patch.  It had so many pumpkins all different shapes, colors, and sizes.  Whatever style of pumpkin you are looking for you are sure to find one there.  Evan saw his daddy try to pick up a huge pumpkin and tried to do the same, it was insanely cute!  We walked around and found an area that had several small pumpkins, Evan went and picked out his first one that was perfect for his size.

At the end of the pumpkin patch was the corn maze.  It was a smaller one but perfect for families with children so you don’t get stuck inside for to long.  We entered through a huge wooden pumpkin and started on our journey through the spooky maze.  It was decorated well and for me nothing was overly scary but I also have a huge love for horror movies and that culture so it takes a lot to surprise me.  However I think it is okay for those with younger children to enter.  We made our way through the twist and turns and looked at all the displays.   Evan did a great job navigating our way through, we only hit a couple of dead ends before finding our way out.

After stopping to take pictures of all of the Halloween decorations we headed to the petting zoo which was small but still nice.  They had a cow, goat, sheep, and a cage with chickens and a peacock.  We were able to feed the animals if we wanted to because Whitney’s had stations to buy food for 25 cents.  The animals were friendly even with the children that were trying to hug and pull on them.  Evan especially liked the cow and spent a good 10-15 minutes just checking him out.  The farm also does pony rides on certain days.  I want to bring Evan back up to do that in the future!

It started getting dark so we decided head home.  We had a fantastic time at Whitney’s and plan on going back over and over.  My boyfriend and I both agree that it was the best time that we had in a while.  Evan enjoyed everything but especially loved the playground and donuts!  It is a great place for families to go and spend a few hours or a great place to bring a date.  You can pack a picnic or buy from the store and just enjoy being outside and enjoying The Berkshires at the best time which is fall in my opinion!
